The Motion Pictures Futures Market May Be Just Around NYMEX’s Corner

Should the New York Business Corporation Provide Stock CertificatesVariety Reports that the Commodities Futures Trading Commission has greenlighted a plan that should appeal to the big risk takers in the room.  A new exchange specifically for the trading of film futures is likely on the horizon, making the film finance game that much more…entertaining.  There is no doubt that there needs to be more creative diversification of capital formation for the film industry.  So I welcome the move to create a tradable film security.  If we can already bet on agricultural futures, why not film?

And anyone interested in a little historical sidenote, will love this paper from 1914 talking about a Motion Picture Securities gold rush.
